The Nichols Gnats inaugurated the 2034 campaign with a disappointing 10-2 loss to the Winfield Warriors at The Pond. Winfield left fielder Renie Burgess had a big impact on the outcome. He slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Hugo Torres got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 9 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 4.

The game turned with two out in the top of the fourth when Burgess hit a run-scoring single. It propelled the Warriors into the lead, 2-1.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Burgess said after the game.
