Wolverines Prevail, 2-1, Over Cincinnati
|
The Wichita Wolverines did just enough to secure a 2-1 victory over the Cincinnati Snaps at The Studio. Nobody did more than pitcher Omar Mendez, who captured player of the game honors. Mendez got the win, improving to 4-3. He allowed 5 hits and walked 5 over 8 innings. Mendez allowed 1 earned run. Shu-de Tian got the save, his 18th in 23 chances.
Had Francisco Enriquez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Enriquez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Wolverines.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Mendez told reporters after the game.
Wichita improves to 92-63 with the win. They lead their division by 4˝ games.
