Ducks Walk It Off for 83rd Win of Season
|
People near Long Island Stadium no doubt heard the roar of the crowd as the winning run crossed the plate.
The Sandy Springs Spartans got a sterling performance from left fielder Marc Dale, but the Ducks still prevailed, 7-6. Dale was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Sandy Springs's current losing streak is now 4 games.
Long Island won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With no outs and Harmon Anstey on the mound for Sandy Springs, left fielder Bill Gaffaney hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Ducks fans to their feet.
"Put a star next to this win," Gaffaney said.
