The Sandy Springs Spartans defeated the Topeka Predators, 13-9. Earning player of the game honors was left fielder Jen-ta Zhong, who went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 5 runs and drove in 3. Sandy Springs reliever Tony Mejía got the win, raising his record to 10-2. Jorge Arellano was tagged with the loss. The 5th-place Spartans are now 71-74, the Predators 65-80.
The Spartans got a big at-bat from first baseman Douglas Dill. For the game, Dill was 2 for 5 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 10th double of the season gave Sandy Springs a 5-4 lead.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Spartans manager José Parra. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
