Black Bears Turn Back Madison, 7-5
|
Benefiting from Scott Hoffmann's productive game, the Fraser Valley Black Bears downed the Madison Beehive, 7-5. Hoffmann went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Black Bears. The win was Tony Salas's in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Gilberto Vega took the loss for Madison. Jorge Rodríguez notched his 3rd save in 5 chances.
Hoffmann contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Fraser Valley in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Hoffmann took a knuckle curve from Gilberto Vega and stroked the home run to left. His 2nd home run of the season allowed the Black Bears to leap in front, 2-1.
Hoffmann called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
The Black Bears bumped their record to 77-58 with this latest triumph.
