Monarchs Stymie Silicon Valley, Take 4-1 Win
|
The Marysville Monarchs defeated the Silicon Valley Hackers, 4-1, in Cory Lidle League action at San Jose Municipal Stadium, with Marysville pitcher Bill Almy named player of the game. Almy, now 6-8, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 1 hit, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 1 earned run. Brian Reddin, credited with the save, is now 23 for 27 in save opportunities.
The Monarchs got a big at-bat from center fielder Omar Mora. For the game, Mora was 2-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. In the top of the third, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 83rd hit of the season gave Marysville a 2-0 lead.
"Good pitching stops good hitting," said Mora. "And vice-versa."
Marysville is now riding a 3-game win streak.
