The Marysville Monarchs beat the DeKalb Cornhuskers, 4-2, at Mitts Fieldhouse. Marysville first baseman António Ayala earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Toshikazu Yokoyama picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 6-10. Kazushige Kichida was tagged with the loss. The 5th-place Monarchs are now 59-73, the Cornhuskers 66-67.

Ayala had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 2-2 fastball from Kazushige Kichida, he banged a 3-run home run to left-center, giving the Monarchs a 4-2 lead. It was the 24th home run of the year for Ayala.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Ayala told reporters after the game.
