The Fraser Valley Black Bears topped the Phoenix Lights, 7-5, with shortstop Justin Ray playing a big role. Ray went 1-2 with a home run and 3 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Black Bears in the win. Tony Salas got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3 innings. The Black Bears bumped their record to 72-54 with this latest triumph.

Ray had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 0-1 slider from Nobuhiko Newton, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Black Bears a 7-5 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Ray.

In postgame comments to the Fraser Valley Daily News, Ray said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
