Acosta, Cornhuskers Wallop Ducks

The DeKalb Cornhuskers beat the Long Island Ducks, 12-1, at Long Island Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of catcher Sabino Acosta, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. The winner was Jerry Rios, who threw 82 pitches over 6.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 1 run on 3 hits. Ronnie Kimble was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 4 save opportunities.
DeKalb used the bat of Esteban Martinez to get the win. The first baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the second inning to put the Cornhuskers ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"We'll try to build on that win," Martinez told the DeKalb Daily.
The Cornhuskers bumped their record to 58-58 with this latest triumph.
