The Fraser Valley Black Bears did just enough to sneak past the DeKalb Cornhuskers, 4-3, at The Stetson Bowl. Fraser Valley pitcher Luis González earned player of the game honors. The win was credited to Yoichibei Matsubara in relief. His record improves to 1-2. Mark Smith took the loss. The Black Bears' win now puts them at 65-48.
Noriyuki Miyamoto drove in one run for Fraser Valley. The 27-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Enrico Avalos. It was his 27th RBI of the season.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," González said in postgame remarks. "Soon enough, the finish line will be in sight."
