Wolverines Win at Long Island, 8-4
|
The skies opened up and the rain fell at Long Island Stadium.
The Wichita Wolverines defeated the Long Island Ducks, 8-4, at Long Island Stadium. Wichita first baseman Orlando Talamantez was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Wichita reliever Tony Saldana picked up the win, upping his record to 3-4. Steve Nigro took the loss.
Had Willis Pierce not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Pierce hit a 2-run double. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Wolverines.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Pierce.
The Wolverines have an impressive 70-39 record.
