Martinez Hits 2 home runs in Cornhuskers Win
|
The exploits of first baseman Esteban Martinez helped the DeKalb Cornhuskers defeat the Fraser Valley Black Bears, 2-0. Martinez went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, a double, and a walk. DeKalb reliever Enrico Avalos got the win, raising his record to 6-0. Luis González was tagged with the loss. Kunikazu Lookingbill notched his 1st save in 3 chances.
DeKalb took a 2-0 lead on Martinez's 6th home run of the season. The solo home run, which he hit off Jorge Rodríguez in the top of the eighth, propelled DeKalb to the win.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said DeKalb manager Eduardo Varerla.
DeKalb is now 40-48, Fraser Valley 52-34.
