Jaime Valéncia left his imprint on the 4-2 Buzzard's Bay win against the DeKalb Cornhuskers. Valéncia was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and a walk. Buzzard's Bay reliever Takashi Toru was the winner. His record is now 2-1. Mark Smith took the loss. Kenny Moran notched his 10th save in 10 chances.
The Beetlecats got a clutch hit from Mitsunori Nauert with no one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Nauert jumped on a full count fastball from Mark Smith and hit a double, staking his club to a 2-1 lead.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Valéncia. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
