The Marauders faced a stiff challenge from San Francisco pitcher Edgardo Sáenz, but persevered to claim a win at Golden Gate Park. The final score was 3-2. Sáenz went 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run. The Marauders bumped their record to 19-19 with this latest triumph.
It could have been a different outcome for Maple, had it not been for Jorge Zamora, the three-time All-Star . Zamora contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Maple up, 2-1.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said San Francisco manager Joe Ward. "But we decided not to take it."
