Cornhuskers Come Back Late to Clip Spartans
|
The Sandy Springs Spartans got a superb performance from pitcher Riley Goodall. Still, it wasn't enough to beat DeKalb. The Cornhuskers won the game, 4-3. In spite of the loss, Goodall was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball. DeKalb has 3 straight wins, Sandy Springs 3 straight losses.
Had Matt McDade not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, McDade hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Cornhuskers.
Sandy Springs manager José Parra said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
