Islanders Score Late to Upend Colonials, 5-3
|
The rain at Skellington Stadium did not keep Hawaii and New England from finishing their game.
The Hawaii Islanders topped the New England Colonials, 5-3, in Roberto Clemente League action at Skellington Stadium. The player of the game was Hawaii pitcher Rodrigo Garza. Hidetada Abe, credited with the win, is now 2-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. Bernalldo Rocchi got credit for the save for Hawaii. It was his 10th of the year.
The Islanders got a big at-bat from second baseman Tynan Miller. For the game, Miller went 1-5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the top of the ninth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Hawaii a 5-3 lead.
Miller called the win "a collective effort."
Hawaii is now riding a 3-game win streak.
