Bulldogs Come Up Short at DeKalb
|
The DeKalb Cornhuskers eked out a 3-2 win versus the Spokane Bulldogs at The Corn Crib. Nobody did more than designated hitter Willie Zavala, who captured player of the game honors. DeKalb reliever Kazushige Kichida picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Danny Stewart absorbed the loss. Bill Neville, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 10th save.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd and no one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. That's when first baseman Esteban Martinez, who is tied for 8th in the RHL with a .441 on-base percentage, hit a single. The Cornhuskers went on to win.
"I don't lose sleep over a loss," said Zavala. "But I have better dreams after a win."
DeKalb is now 16-22, Spokane 16-21.
