Republic Rally For Late Win Over Beavers

The Portland Beavers got a superb performance from pitcher Félix Reina, but the So Cal Republic still won the game, 4-2. Reina was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball. Masafumi Tamura got credit for the win, improving to 5-2. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 7 innings. The Republic bumped their record to 21-15 with this latest triumph.
Had Pedro Pérez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Pérez hit a 2-run double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Republic.
"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Pérez.
