Monarchs Come Back Late to Top Wolverines
|
The Marysville Monarchs topped the Wichita Wolverines, 3-2, in Cory Lidle League action at Mitts Fieldhouse. The player of the game was Marysville pitcher and Nuevitas, Cuba native Gabriel Mendoza. The winner was Toshikazu Yokoyama in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Hiroo Okimura took the loss. The Wolverines fall to 12-13 and continue their uneasy start to the 2034 season.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Marysville trailing 2-1, George Cromsie hit a fastball from Hiroo Okimura to center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Monarchs had a walk-off win.
"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Mendoza.
