With shortstop Andrés Morales leading the charge, the Jacksonville Hellcats defeated the Marysville Monarchs, 6-3, at Mitts Fieldhouse. Morales, who is tied for 10th in the CLL in bases on balls with 14, was 2-2 with a double and 2 walks. He scored 2 times. The win was credited to Kwan-cheol Hwang in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Ryan Le Carré took the loss. Tadakatsu Murayama was called on to finish, recording his 2nd save.
Sam Whitmore, who is tied for 2nd in the CLL in RBI with 18, aided the Jacksonville cause with a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh. For the game, the third baseman went 1-5 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Morales said after the game.
Jacksonville, now 5-12, is off to a slow start.
