Cornhuskers Slip Past San Antonio, 7-6
|
The San Antonio Storm Troopers got a superb performance from pitcher Hang-yu Pak, but the DeKalb Cornhuskers still won the game, 7-6. Pak was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball. DeKalb reliever Enrico Avalos picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Lorenzo Ortega took the loss. Bill Neville earned the save, his 4th.
Had Andy Wuensche not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Wuensche hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 7-4, in favor of the Cornhuskers.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Wuensche, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
DeKalb, now 6-9, is off to a slow start.
