Aces Get Close Win Over Islanders
|
The Hawaii Islanders got a superb performance from pitcher Norogumi Yokoyama. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Las Vegas. The Aces won the game, 6-5. In spite of the loss, Yokoyama was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of shutout ball. Las Vegas reliever Amaui Mahi'ai was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Keith Martin. Las Vegas, at 12-21, sits in last place in the Roberto Clemente League William Atteberry Division.
Jorge Rodríguez was the walk-off hero for Las Vegas. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Aces third baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"I'm proud of the way our guys played today to come out with this win," Rodríguez told the Las Vegas Gazette.
