The DeKalb Cornhuskers got a sterling performance from pitcher Graeme Hughes, but the Ducks still prevailed, 3-2. Hughes was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball. Reliever Stuart Organ picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Mark Smith took the loss. Bartolo Alicpa finished to wrap up his 2nd save.

The Ducks got a big at-bat from catcher Kent Owen. For the game, Owen went 1 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 1st double of the season gave Long Island a 3-2 lead.

"Enjoyed this one," Owen told the Long Island Times. "But it's back to work tomorrow."

The Cornhuskers fall to 4-7 and continue to sputter in the early going.
