Wolverines Get Win, Hope to Turn Around Slow Start
|
In a low-scoring game between the Wichita Wolverines and the Topeka Predators, pitcher Bobby Lloyd was masterful on the mound. The Wichita left-hander was named the player of the game in Wichita's 3-1 win. Lloyd, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 6, walking 5, and allowing no earned runs. The Wolverines, with just their 2nd win so far in 2034, have yet to catch fire.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Valentim Carrapa didn't flinch. With the bases loaded and Topeka trailing 3-1, Carrapa retired Ed Villegas to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Carrapa, with a wink.
