Bombers Stun Pioneers, 6-2

Vancouver got a terrific performance from pitcher Tony Velázquez, but it wasn't enough to beat the South Carolina Bombers. South Carolina won the "The Fort" at B.C. Place contest, 6-2. Velázquez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of shutout ball. South Carolina reliever Alejandro Gutierrez picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Shojiro Inoue took the loss. The Bombers bumped their record to 17-17 with this latest triumph.
The Bombers got a big at-bat from third baseman Ken Abbott. For the game, Abbott went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the ninth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave South Carolina a 6-2 lead.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Abbott told the South Carolina Chronicle.
