The Madison Beehive put one in the win column with an opening day 3-2 triumph over the Topeka Predators. The crowd at The Hive watched Gilberto Vega put on a fine performance, for which he was named player of the game. Vega went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 4, and struck out 4. His record improves to 1-0. The save went to Seung-min Ohng, his 1st this season.

Trevor Goldsmith had a big run-scoring triple for the Beehive in the bottom of the second inning. With Madison trailing 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a sinker from Tom Cluff and stroked the triple to right-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Beehive ahead, 2-1.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Topeka manager Dan Jones. "The effort was great."
