The Albuquerque Cacti got a stellar effort from pitcher Ken Stein, helping Albuquerque score a 3-1 win over the visiting Coronado Phantoms. Stein went 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. His record improves to 2-1. The Cacti bumped their record to 87-72 with this latest triumph.
The Cacti got a big at-bat from third baseman Takafumi Ueno. For the game, Ueno went 1-3. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run single. His 86th hit of the season gave Albuquerque a 2-1 lead.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Stein.
