The rain at The Firepit did not keep Joplin and Reno from finishing their game.
Getting a good performance from right fielder Takashi Tsuruta, the Joplin Fireballs defeated the Reno Raiders, 5-2. Tsuruta went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs for the Fireballs. Jacob Willard got the win, improving to 13-8. He worked 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3.
The Fireballs got a big at-bat from third baseman Marcos Tovar. For the game, Tovar was 2 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 15th double of the season gave Joplin a 4-2 lead.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Tsuruta told the Joplin Bulletin.
Joplin has now won 3 in a row.
