Caterpillars Continue Skid Thanks to Suzuki, Coal Miners
|
It was a fun time at The Coal Mine, where the Peoria Caterpillars and Antioch Coal Miners tangled.
Tatsuhito Suzuki was instrumental in his team's 12-9 triumph over the Peoria Caterpillars. The left fielder went 3-3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 4 times and driving in 2 for the Antioch Coal Miners. Takeji Ogawa earned the win for Antioch. He lasted 5 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 8 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 13-8. Daryl Wyles got the save, his 2nd in 2 chances.
The Coal Miners got a big at-bat from designated hitter Waylon Swerdlow. For the game, Swerdlow hit 2 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 14th home run of the season gave Antioch a 9-6 lead.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Swerdlow.
Antioch has now won 3 straight, while the Caterpillars have lost 5 in a row.
