The Astoria Argonauts beat the Billings Mustangs, 6-5, at Cobb Field. The Argonauts got a fine performance from center fielder Monte Irvin, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The Argonauts bumped their record to 82-68 with this latest triumph.

Irvin had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 1-2 fastball from Tony Varela, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Argonauts a 5-3 lead. It was the 25th home run of the year for Irvin.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Irvin told the Astoria Herald. "It's as simple as that."
