The Bronx Bombers picked up a win at Bronx Ballpark, knocking off the Espanola Bomberos, 6-1. Starting pitcher Jerry Hughes, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Hughes got the win, improving to 5-9. He allowed 6 hits and walked 2 over 6.2 innings. Hughes allowed 1 earned run. Carl Tyler converted his 2nd save in 5 tries.

Bernard Nickless aided the Bronx cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the catcher was 1-3.

"Being able to contribute to a win is always a great feeling," Hughes told the Bronx Herald.

The Bomberos, at 73-67, have lost 4 straight games.
