Flash Squelch Cats Offense in Shutout Win
|
Fairfield played host to Fort Worth at the friendly confines of Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Fairfield beat Fort Worth on the strength of starter Frank Hillier's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 5-0 win. Hillier, now 6-8, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing no earned runs. Royce Leveque converted his 3rd save in 6 tries.
The Flash got a big at-bat from catcher Jorge Escobedo. For the game, Escobedo went 2-4 with 2 doubles. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 10th double of the season gave Fairfield a 3-0 lead.
Escobedo called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
Fairfield bumps their record to 62-75 with the win.
