Fireballs Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Caterpillars
The Joplin Fireballs picked up a win at The Firepit, knocking off the Peoria Caterpillars, 4-3. On the mound for Joplin was right-hander Jacob Willard, who played a pivotal role in the win. Willard, now 11-8, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 2 earned runs. Hiroo Okimura got the save, his 10th in 11 chances.

The Fireballs got a big at-bat from center fielder Seito Yokoyama. For the game, Yokoyama was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 1st double of the season gave Joplin a 3-2 lead.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Peoria skipper Roberto Martínez, "and it cost us."

Joplin goes to 76-57. The win puts them 3½ games up in their division.
