Canadians Drop Fireballs with Late Score
|
The Canadians grabbed a win, 5-2, at Stanley Park, overcoming a fine effort from Joplin pitcher Al Bates. Bates went 7.1 innings and allowed 4 earned runs. Vancouver reliever Andy Ryan was the winner. His record is now 4-4. The losing pitcher was Al Bates. This win makes it 5 in a row for Vancouver.
The Canadians got a big at-bat from designated hitter Rafael Cruz. For the game, Cruz was 1 for 4. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run single. His 103rd hit of the season gave Vancouver a 4-2 lead.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Cruz. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
