Both teams had their chances, but the Hawaii Islanders eventually prevailed at Legends Park.
The Hawaii Islanders bested the Maple Marauders, 5-4, at Legends Park. Gilberto Jiménez was named player of the game. He belted 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Hawaii reliever Winston Boer was the winner. His record is now 2-1. Minoru Aoki took the loss.
Jiménez had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 2-1 fastball from Minoru Aoki, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Islanders a 5-4 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Jiménez.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Maple manager Jesús Alfaro. "But we decided not to take it."
With the loss, Maple sinks to 16-14.
