The Havana Stogies bested the Georgia Grays, 4-3, at The Death Star. Susumu Kono was named player of the game. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Havana reliever Jimmy Hunter got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Matt Comrie was tagged with the loss. Havana, at 22-7, has sizzled in the early going.
The Stogies got a big at-bat from right fielder Jesús Velásquez. For the game, Velásquez was 2 for 5 with 2 singles. In the top of the ninth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 34th hit of the season gave Havana a 4-3 lead.
"Enjoyed this one," Velásquez told the Havana Daily. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
