Death Stars Score Late, Stun Raiders, 5-4
|
The Detroit Death Stars beat the Reno Raiders, 5-4, at House of Pain. The win was largely due to the efforts of left fielder Hui Pan, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2-2 with a home run and 3 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Felipe Marés notched his 3rd save in 5 chances. The Death Stars bumped their record to 50-37 with this latest triumph.
Had Tony Martinez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Martinez hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Death Stars.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Reno manager Chris Brading.
