The Fairfield Flash got a strong performance from pitcher Joe Gillard, who stymied the Detroit offense en route to a 5-2 win at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Paul Calamy earned save number 5. The Flash bumped their record to 40-35 with this latest triumph.
John Pinnock was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk, while scoring 2 times for Fairfield. The 22-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Larry Allen. It was his 33rd walk of the season.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Pinnock. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
