The Rhinos had to overcome a fine performance from Brooklyn pitcher Jesús Díaz to grab a 5-4 win at Blue Ivy Stadium. Díaz allowed 2 earned runs over 8 innings. Vincent Vickers picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-2. He struck out 6 in 8 innings. The win brings the Rhinos to 11-14, a soft start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Oscar Costales came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Brooklyn pitcher Ji-hwan Yea, he hit a 0-1 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Rubber City on top, 5-4.
"You win some, you lose some. I don't get too caught up in all that," said Costales.
