Maldanoda Excels, But Kodiaks Win
|
The Reno Raiders got a superb performance from second baseman Vicente Maldanoda. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Calgary. The Kodiaks won the game, 7-6. In spite of the loss, Maldanoda was named the player of the game. He was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. The Kodiaks bumped their record to 37-37 with this latest triumph.
Lemn Onkwani hit a run-scoring double off Gerry LaForest in the top of the ninth, which put the Kodiaks in front, 7-6. In addition to the double, Onkwani had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 4.
In postgame comments to the Calgary Times, Onkwani said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
