Fireballs Need Extra Frames to Get Past Freeze
|
The Joplin Fireballs beat the Minneapolis Freeze, 6-5 at The Ice Box, in part due to shortstop Jim Bungay, who nabbed player of the game honors. He was 4 for 4 with 2 home runs, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Joplin reliever Xian Wang got the win, raising his record to 4-0. Rodolfo Reyes was tagged with the loss. Joplin has now won 3 in a row.
The Fireballs got a big at-bat from designated hitter Marcos Tovar. For the game, Tovar was 1 for 5 with a home run. In the top of the tenth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Joplin a 6-5 lead.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Minneapolis manager John Justin. "The effort was great."
