Rockets Top Death Stars to Even Record
|
The Reno Rockets knocked off the Detroit Death Stars, 10-4, at The Death Star. Kiyoshi Shinohara, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Reno won. The shortstop was 3 for 3 with 3 singles. He scored 3 runs. Reno reliever José Toro got the win, raising his record to 1-2. Felipe Marés was tagged with the loss. Ramón Gonzáles earned the save, his 1st, for the Rockets.
Reno used the timely hitting of Keaton Hewitt to capture the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Rockets on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but he made it count.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Shinohara told the Reno News. "It's as simple as that."
The Rockets bumped their record to 23-23 with this latest triumph.
