Fireballs Topple Freeze with Late Rally
|
The Joplin Fireballs picked up a win at The Firepit, knocking off the Minneapolis Freeze, 4-3. Starting pitcher David Myers, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Joplin reliever Xian Wang picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Rodolfo Reyes absorbed the loss. Joplin is now 29-10, 5 games up in the Darryl Kile League Joe Torre Division.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Joplin shortstop Jim Bungay, facing Rodolfo Reyes, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Fireballs the 4-3 win.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Myers told reporters after the game.
