Bomberos Win at Fairfield, 6-5
|
The Fairfield Flash got a superb performance from third baseman Taylor Bastien. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Espanola. The Bomberos won the game, 6-5. In spite of the loss, Bastien was named the player of the game. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. Espanola reliever Andy Schuman was the winner. His record is now 1-2. The losing pitcher was Jamie Newitt. Lex Herrewijn locked down his 2nd save.
Had Yoshihiro Suzuki not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Suzuki hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Bomberos.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Suzuki said.
The Bomberos bumped their record to 18-16 with this latest triumph.
