Raiders Get Close Win Over Death Stars
|
The Reno Raiders and Detroit Death Stars played an exciting game at The Death Star.
The Detroit Death Stars got a superb performance from pitcher Steve Ferguson. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Reno. The Raiders won the game, 3-2. In spite of the loss, Ferguson was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Reno reliever Mei-shan Huang was the winner. His record is now 3-0. The losing pitcher was Kent Whitten. Gerry LaForest locked down his 7th save.
The Raiders got a big at-bat from shortstop Phil Goodenough. For the game, Goodenough went 2 for 4 with 2 singles. In the top of the ninth, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 28th hit of the season gave Reno a 3-2 lead.
Detroit manager Loren Garrison said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
Reno is now riding a 3-game win streak.
