With center fielder Luis Morales leading the charge, the Espanola Bomberos defeated the Fort Worth Cats, 9-3, at Casa de Fuego. Morales, who is tied for 8th in the NAL with a 1.023 OPS, went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Tokutomi Nishida was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 5 walks and 2 strikeouts. The save was Jason Cole's, his 1st.
The Bomberos got a big at-bat from shortstop Yoshihiro Suzuki. For the game, Suzuki was 2 for 5 with 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the third, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 20th hit of the season gave Espanola a 3-2 lead.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Espanola manager Josh Zeh.
Espanola, now 11-6, has gotten their season off to a good start.
