Hops Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Black Knights
|
Brooklyn pitcher Jan Shirazi gave the Hops all they could handle, but in the end, San Diego left Blue Ivy Stadium with a 5-4 win. Shirazi allowed 1 earned run on 6 hits over 7.1 innings. The win was Taylor Longbottom's in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Ji-hwan Yea took the loss for Brooklyn. The Hops are off to a tough start, getting just their 7th win in 19 games.
Motoki Hayakawa's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a curveball from Ji-hwan Yea for a grand slam home run. It put San Diego in front, 5-4.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Hayakawa.
