Bombers Prevail, 5-3, Over Astoria
|
The Bronx Bombers grabbed a 5-3 win over the Astoria Argonauts at Bronx Ballpark. Bronx right fielder Jesus Chavez went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk to earn player of the game honors. Bronx reliever Jian-guo Yang picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Rod Larcombe absorbed the loss. Ewan Pethick recorded the save for Bronx, his 3rd of the season.
Curtis Downing chipped in for Bronx with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Downing told the Bronx Herald.
With the win, Bronx boosts its record to 3-3.
