Raptors Turn Back Joplin, 6-4
|
Omaha and Joplin duked it out at The Firepit and the Raptors came out victorious.
The Joplin Fireballs got a superb performance from first baseman Jim Bungay. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Omaha. The Raptors won the game, 6-4. In spite of the loss, Bungay was named the player of the game. He was 4-5 with 4 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Michiomi Moteki got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 3. Pete Tupper closed the game out for Omaha, earning his 1st save.
It could have been a different outcome for Omaha, had it not been for Marcos Ortíz, the 28-year old left fielder . Ortíz contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put Omaha up, 5-3.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Ortíz.
With the loss, Joplin falls to 1-1.
