Reno starter Andy Mendoza put a stranglehold on the Silver Lake offense. The left-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Rockets to a 4-1 win. Mendoza, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 7 walks. With the loss, Silver Lake sinks to 1-1.

Pat Hartley aided the Reno cause with a 2-run double in the bottom of the third. For the game, the third baseman was 2-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Reno manager Tom Morton. "It's usually not just one thing."
